Everyone, including agency workers, has these rights:

National Minimum Wage

Since 1 October 2009, the adult rate for workers aged 22 and over is £5.80 per hour.

The development rate for 18-21 year olds and for workers receiving accredited training in the first 6 months of a new job is £4.83 per hour.

Limit to hours worked

You have the right to work no more than 48 hours a week unless you want to. Some employers may ask you to sign an ´opt out´ form, in other words to work more than 48 hours. The law says you must not be forced to sign an opt-out, or be treated unfavorably if you refuse.

Rest

As an adult worker you have the right to a break of at least 11 hours between working days. This means if you finish work at 8.00 pm on Monday you should not start work until 7.00 am on Tuesday.

Day off work

You have the right to a day off each week.

Holiday

All workers have the right to 5.6 weeks paid holiday per year (28 days). This right applies from the first day of employment.

Join a Union

Your Employer cannot treat you less favourably because you are a member of a union.

Fair deductions from salary

You should not have unfair deductions taken from your pay for things like your uniform or safety equipment. If you think this is happening, seek advice.
